Chronology of cameras Marion and Co

This reflex type plate camera, manufactured by Marion Soho, was distributed by Sands Hunter and Co.
Renowned for photo reportage, this type of device was cumbersome: when the sighting cap was folded and the bellows retracted, it measures 22 x 18 x 17cm. The expanded cap makes its height rise to 40 cm!
Its focal plane shutter also known as a curtain shutter has a vertically moving slot. It is to this type of shutter that made the deformation of the wheels of cars in the photos of Lartigue.
Its lens, a magnificent Ross Xpres, dates from 1914-15. It opens from 4.5 to 32 for a focal length of 7 ¼ inches.
The ground glass is very large: about 12 x13 cm.
The plate holder carrier, for 10x12cm plates, rotates, leaving the choice between portrait or landscape format. There is also a removable ground glass.
The bellows makes possible an extension of 12cm allowing the focus to start from 50 cm.
